“Where the telescope ends, the microscope begins. Which of the two has the grander view?”

from Les Misérables (1862) by Victor Hugo, Vol. IV, Book 3, Ch. III

This logo symbolizes how we understand our work: we analyze extraterrestrial material in the laboratory with a variety of microanalytical techniques in order to gain knowledge about the history and the origin of the solar system and the surrounding galaxy. Thus, we perform astronomy in a new way: with a microscope instead of a telescope.

All of this we do in St. Louis, where the Gateway Arch stands for the exploration of and expansion into a new world.
