Files and Folders

Introduction

The software needs to know the paths to many different setup files and data has to be saved somewhere, too. All of these paths can be set from here. Thus it is possible to 'personalize' the program without affecting other users.

Note: This function is for advanced users and not necessary for a general understanding of the 3f software otherwise.

File Selection

Choose any of the files from the list in the left side of the window. The description on the right and some of the button options will change accordingly and the current path to the file will be displayed.

"Setup File Zero"

Among the files that can be selected, one has a special significance: This is the mother of all setup files. It contains the paths of all the other setup files that can be changed individually. The LabView 3f control will always start with the default one ("SetupZero.txt" in the same directory as "Start3f.vi"), but you can select a different one for the current session. Note that selecting a different file here will change all other paths accordingly. To make permanent changes to the selected SetupFileZero, click "Save to SetupFileZero" at the bottom.

Am I making myself clear here?

Select New

To use a different file for any particular purpose (e.g. your own mass calibration table), click this button and select the file with the standard file selection window. This will change the path and/or file name displayed on the right. Any new selection will only be valid for as long as this session lasts (i.e. until you start the LabView 3f control the next time).

If -for example- you don't trust the isotopic abundances that the LabView 3f control uses, this is the place to select a different file for this purpose.

Duplicate

If you are just starting to personalize some of these files, the easiest way is to simply duplicate the current setup file and to save it under a different name. This way you have a 'working' starting point from where you can make your changes. For example: You could duplicate 'MassTableP60.txt' to 'MyMassTable.txt' and then start making changes to this file from the "Mass Calibration" program. The "Mass Calibration" program will always save everything under the file name that is selected here. This is also a great way to 'experiment' with setup files without the risk of messing everything up for other users. Remember that all changes in the selected files are only valid for the duration of the current LabView session.

Save to SetupFileZero

To make any kind of permanent changes (i.e. changes that are still there when you start the LabView 3f control next time), click here to save a modified SetupFileZero.
Please don't make any changes here - this option is only for advanced users!

Abort

This one is easy: If you click here, this window closes and any changes you might have made are discarded.

Re-Initialize & Exit

This should be the standard way to exit this window. All changes are becoming active with a re-initialization.
