Remote Control Server

Introduction

It is possible to watch the progress of a measurement on the 3f from any internet-connected computer in the world. Access options can be controlled from this remote control server window.

Whenever this window is open, remote observation is enabled, i.e. it is possible to watch the progress of the measurement remotely. This can be useful to monitor a measurement from the office down the hall to know when a measurement is completed.

Allow Clients to Control Analysis

Turning this option on gives outside users (limited) control over the currently running measurement. Make sure you know what you are doing when you enable this option.

The main purpose for this function is to change the numbers of runs and blocks e.g. from at home during a long-time measurement.

Currently Connected Clients

When the client software (see section 21) on a remote computer establishes contact with the 3f server, its internet address is displayed here. Use this information to keep track of who is peeking over your shoulder.

Edit Remote Access List

The world is a big place and chances are you may not allow everybody to watch (or control) your measurement. Keep in mind, though, that a user would need our own client software (or very good LabView hacking skills) to mess up a measurement.

To selectively allow and disallow access from various locations click on this button. The window that pops up and its functions are described below.

Stop Connections & Exit

To halt the remote control server, cut all existing remote connections and close the window, click on this button. Note that it is not possible to access the 3f from a remote computer if this window is closed.

Edit Access List

This window pops up when the 'Edit Remote Access List' button is clicked. Use it to control who can access the 3f server.

Local Domain

To allow access from anywhere in the local domain (everybody with a *.wustl.edu address), select this option.

Other

Explicitly list all other addresses here from where access should be allowed. To grant universal access, add '*' as an address here.

Reset

Reset the access list to its original setting.

Save & Exit

Click here to close this window. All settings are being saved in a setup file which is loaded at every startup of the 3f software.
