Manual Calibration



Introduction

When positions of mass peaks need to be calibrated manually at the beginning of a measurement, this window shows up. It waits for user interaction, while the primary beam is turned off. After the user starts the actual calibration, the beam is turned on and remains on for the measurement.


List of Masses

This list shows the names of all mass peaks for the current measurement. The ones with a bullet in front need to be calibrated manually (both in this case).


Start Calibration

After this window initially opens, it waits until the user starts the calibration by clicking on this button. After clicking on this button the primary beam will be turned on and the acutal calibration sequence starts. Make sure to not leave the beam on too long for the calibration. If necessary, it is better to have the instrument wait before pressing this button (with the beam off) than after doing so (with the beam on).

After clicking this start button the window changes to the mode shown below.


Valid At Center Of Peak

Once the calibration sequence has started, the first mass will be highlighted as shown here. The 'Valid' button blinks to indicate that user interaction is required at this point. Move the magnetic field to the center of the mass peak by changing the manual B-field control on the 3f. Then click on the 'Valid' button or hit Enter on the keyboard.

After this, the mass peak centering window will open to show the attempts of the program to find the exact center of the peak. In case of a very low count rate, a warning message will appear and the sequence will continue with the user-selected peak position.

The calibration sequence will continue until all masses have been manually calibrated.

Then, the program will ask whether a second round of calibration is needed. Select 'Yes' to check the peaks or to make changes.


B-Field Display

During the calibration sequence, the current B-Field value is displayed at the bottom of the window.
