ION IMAGING SYSTEM SOFTWARE

WHIP

WHIP Software (Image acquisition)

The WHIP software package consists of a series of programs which can be called directly from a UNIX shell or combined into C-shell scripts. In addition, there is a program called whipfly which provides a button interface to the different programs, useful for configuring the CCD, focusing the camera, etc. There are man pages online for most of the WHIP programs which are also printed out along with more information in the "Manuals Imaging" notebook in the ion probe lab. To get online help about WHIP commands, type man <command>.

NOTE: In general, you should not need to deal too much with WHIP; there are scripts already written which will acquire images and save them to the hard disk and these scripts can be called from within PV-WAVE. If you want to write your own scripts or if you need to reconfigure the CCD or camera, however, you will need to deal directly with WHIP.
